Stand-downs and suspensions
Cases per 1,000 students in 2025, adjusted for the ages of the school’s students, compared with all New Zealand schools.
Suspensions: fewer than 5 cases in 2025, so no rate is shown.
These measure how a school responds to behaviour, and schools set their own thresholds, so they are not a measure of how students behave.
What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from April 2024. This kind of report sets out what ERO and the school will evaluate together, here how well the school’s assessment tools in mathematics guide teaching and lift results, as a new maths programme comes in.
ERO pointed to a local curriculum that keeps improving and aims for fair outcomes for every learner, engaged students with trusting relationships with staff, leadership that builds trust and consults widely, and strong professional capability.
In the rumaki and bilingual setting, ERO found tamariki with a strong sense of identity and belonging, capable kaiako who model quality te reo Māori, and learning tied to the tikanga and stories of Ngāti Porou.
Next, the school plans to use research to find assessment tools that give reliable information about progress, trial and evaluate them through a strategic inquiry, and build teachers’ confidence with new assessment practice through professional learning. For the rumaki and bilingual classes, the priority is to weave te reo Māori, tikanga and mātauranga Māori consistently through all learning programmes.

Enrolling
Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. Out-of-zone places are offered under the school’s enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places.
The school’s site says families can collect an enrolment pack from the office and return it with the child’s birth certificate or passport, and that all new entrants, for both the mainstream and bilingual Māori classes, take part in the transition-to-school programme before they start.
