What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from July 2024. ERO notes the school runs one bilingual class and two classes for learners with additional needs. A majority of students reach expected levels in reading and maths, students are increasingly engaged, and leaders are working closely with whānau, mana whenua and contributing schools.

In the bilingual programme, Ngā Manu ā Rēhua, tamariki build confidence in te reo Māori through karakia, pepeha and whakapapa and make accelerated progress in reading, writing and maths.

ERO also found gaps between New Zealand European students and Māori and Pacific learners, and a gap between boys and girls in literacy, most of all in writing, and regular attendance is below the Ministry of Education target.

ERO’s agreed next steps are to make regular attendance a firm priority, lift achievement and narrow the gaps between groups in reading, writing and maths, build teachers’ cultural capability, and strengthen assessment and moderation. For the bilingual class, ERO’s priorities are everyday conversational reo, better tracking of the programme and a te reo Māori assessment tool.
