Manutuke School is a state, co-educational composite school for Years 1 to 13 at 59 Waingake Road, Manutuke. It opened in 1885 and had 230 students on its roll at 1 September 2026.
It has no home zone, so any student can apply. The school teaches in two settings at both primary and secondary level: Te Whānau Reo Māori, with Level 1 Māori immersion classes, and Te Whānau a Manu, with Level 2 classes. Its vision, Te Manu Tū Kē, grounds learning in the school’s connection with Rongowhakaata, including its history, reo and tikanga, and the school runs a bus service for students.

These measure how a school responds to behaviour, and schools set their own thresholds, so they are not a measure of how students behave.
What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Ngā Kitenga Arotake report from November 2025, the first done by ERO’s kaupapa Māori evaluation team since the kura joined Ngā Kura ā Iwi o Aotearoa.
ERO found uri growing into confident, self-directed learners, with the strongest connection to te reo, tikanga and the mātauranga of Rongowhakaata in the Rumaki.
In Years 1 to 8 a large majority were progressing and achieving well. In the first year the kura offered NCEA, results were high across all levels, and University Entrance results were in line with or a little above the national average.
ERO also found serious problems with leadership and governance. Professional relationships within the leadership team, and between the board and the principal, had broken down, hurting staff morale and the running of the kura, the strategic plan had not been ratified, and the curriculum was not yet applied consistently across the Rumaki and dual-medium pathways.
ERO also found that uri had at times been exposed to divisive and unprofessional behaviour, set a compliance action on police vetting of staff and recommended that the Ministry of Education consider appointing a limited statutory manager to take on some board functions.
